Area Veterans, and Those Currently Serving, Invited to Attend Campus Veterans Day Events

Veterans Day activities are planned on a number of Cleburne ISD campuses, with area veterans, or those currently serving, invited to attend.

Marti Elementary will be observing Veterans Day on Thursday with a morning school assembly, followed by a music program at 6:30 p.m.

The majority of campus activities are scheduled on Friday, starting at Santa Fe Elementary, which will conduct a program at 8 a.m. and will include Sgt. Patricia Moore, a decorated U.S. Marine, among the guest speakers. The morning will be highlighted by a Veterans Day Parade at 10, with students marching through the halls with a guest they invited to the celebration or carrying photos of veterans, or those now serving, who are also family members.

Irving Elementary will be hosting a Veterans Day assembly from 8:30-9:30 a.m. which will include music and a recognition of veterans in attendance. It will be the school’s first Facebook Live event, and can be viewed as it happens on Irving’s Facebook page.

Veterans and current servicemen and women will be honored on stage at Adams Elementary’s annual salute to patriots, set for 9 a.m. Program emcee will be retired Cleburne High School Principal and Korean Conflict Veteran E.J. Barnes. Coleman Elementary has scheduled an afternoon assembly from 2-3 p.m.

Wheat Middle School will host its annual Veterans Day Luncheon in the campus library, with students given the opportunity to invite a veteran. Students have also created profiles of veterans—those special to them or those from history—which are on display throughout the school. Wheat band students will perform a medley of patriotic pieces in the band hall for guests in attendance.

Smith Middle School will conduct its annual Veterans Day program on Monday, which will feature a performance by the Smith Wind Ensemble, starting at 3 p.m. Last year’s event was especially memorable with two national treasures—veterans of World War II--in attendance.
