Six Cleburne ISD Students Advance to Elks Hoop Shoot District Contest

Six Cleburne ISD students will be representing their community at the Elks Hoop Shoot District contest taking place Saturday in Arlington.

The students placed first in their age divisions at the Preliminary Hoop Shoot competition, sponsored by the Cleburne Elks Lodge. Contestants at the Preliminary contest involved the top free throw shooters from several CISD elementary and middle school campuses.

Competing Saturday in the girls 8 and 9 division will be Haley Price, a third grader at Gerard Elementary. Irving Elementary third grader Achilles Amaya will be competing in the boys 8-9 age group.

In the age 10-11 division, Adams Elementary fifth grader Beaux Douthitt will be representing Cleburne in the boy’s event, with Wheat Middle School sixth grader Alexis Staton competing in the girl’s contest.

The ages 12-13 division will include Gerard fifth grader Creed Martyniuk on the the boy’s side, with Wheat sixth grader Valeria Chavez entered in the girl’s event.

The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for children ages 8-13. The winners at Saturday’s District contest will advance to the state competition, with the opportunity to continue on to the Regional and National levels.

“We are so excited to once again sponsor the Hoop Shoot in our community,” Cleburne Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot Chairman Susan Ford said. “This is a long-running project of the National Elks Foundation and gives children the chance to compete, connect and succeed through hard work and healthy competition.”

“In working with CISD PE teachers, I learned that a staff member from Marti Elementary had competed at the State Hoop Shoot contest when he was in elementary school,” Ford said. “It’s wonderful to be a member of an organization that can provide students with such opportunities.”

Among the top competitors at the Cleburne Elks Preliminary Hoop Shoot were: Giovanne Argandona-Cooke Elementary, 2nd place; Allen Golden, Adams Elementary, 3rd place in Boys 8 and 9 and Lauryn Carrizales-Gerard Elementary, 2nd place; Natalie Torres, Adams Elementary, 3rd place, Girls 8-9. In boys 10-11 Anthony Ponce, 1st place, Irving Elementary and Dawson Macklin, 3rd place, Adams Elementary; Abby Pritchett, Gerard, 2nd place; Aubree Harmon, Marti Elementary, 3rd place, Girls 10-11.
