  • Google Drive in the Classroom

Posted by Jane Flynn at 5/14/2013
Well, I have been so busy that it has been a while since I posted. So much going on. Let me start by saying we are definitely becoming a Google district. I was helping Coleman 4th grade classes with the NEOs and the Chromebooks. The students typed on the NEOs, then sent their documents to their Google Drive. The fun part was watching them access their work on the Chromebooks and the teacher's computer. They loved the collaboration feature. Great group of kids.

I was asked to come visit Adams and help with Google presentation. The students were working on the Chromebooks, lab pcs, and the multi-user stations. They were ready to learn and ready to help each other. Show them a little and off they go.

  • Students using iPads, Becoming Digital

Posted by Jane Flynn at 4/10/2013
iPad carts are starting to arrive in the classrooms. Students are loving the iPads and using them in various ways in the classroom. At Smith, students are using ShowMe in the ELA classroom. Mr. Morton's students are demonstrating knowledge of figurative language.

  • iPads in the Classroom

iPads are in the classroom. Classroom carts are available for teachers to checkout. At Smith, Mrs. Barkman's students used the app Educreations to create bar graphs and histograms. Mrs. Rago's students used the app Skitch to annotate and label maps of Texas in preparation for the upcoming 7th grade Texas History benchmark.

At Wheat, Mrs. Alexander used the app Skitch to create bar graphs and histograms.
From Mrs. Alexander: I love Skitch!! We used it yesterday to create bar graphs and circle graphs. Then I had the kids upload their pics to their Google drive and share them with me. Too cool!

  • Visiting at Smith

Posted by Jane Flynn at 11/29/2012
I love walking around a campus and seeing the integration of technology working so smoothly. As I walked by the computer lab, I watched Mrs. Goains's and Mrs. Lewis's students creating a Google presentation on Style Effects. Students were totally engaged and eager to work.
I came over to Mr. Morton's room to introduce the students to My Big Campus. The students were excited and eager to explore the website.

At Jacket Time, I watched students get into groups with their netbooks and collaborate on a drama project in Google docs. Watching them work so fluidly and with very few problems demonstrates their ease of use of technology. These students are truly 21st Century Learners.

  • Election Time at Irving

Posted by Jane Flynn at 11/7/2012
I was so thrilled and blessed to be invited to be a poll volunteer at the Irving Elementary 1st Grade elections. The students did a great job. They all had registered to vote, carried their voter registration card, and seriously considered their voting choices. Thank you Irving first grade teachers for teaching your students about citizenship and the election process.

  • My Big Campus

Posted by Jane Flynn at 11/7/2012
We have a small test group of teachers trying out My Big Campus. This "Facebook" type of classroom social media site is monitored, safe, and managed by our filter software, Lightspeed. Teachers can post discussions, online lessons, online tests for all their students. There is a plethora of resources for students and teachers. Students can access this site from any internet connection. Students can message teachers and other students (once they have been "friended").

In Mrs. Barnes 7th grade classroom, the students are discussing online the novel from class, doing online assignments, and taking online tests. The first day in class brought a level of excitement and engagement that had never been seen before.
    From Mrs. Barnes
"It's amazing. Super user friendly.  SUPER USER FRIENDLY!  Seriously in love with this thing."

In Mrs. Gresham's HS Social Studies class, the students utilized social media — the new frontier in campaign marketing.

“They created ‘Fakebook’ pages through My Big Campus, which is a safe network designed for classroom use,” she said. “People can’t post on it and it allows students to use digital tools in creating polls and other projects.”

  • Visit to Mrs. Robert's Class

Posted by Jane Flynn at 9/17/2012
I was asked to visit Mrs. Robert's class to be interviewed about my job. The students asked questions and we played "What's My Line?"

We had lots of fun and we posted on the Technology Blog.

  • Teachers using Technology in the Classroom

Posted by Jane Flynn at 9/17/2012
I love to walk down the halls of schools and see teachers using technology to enhance their lessons. As I was walking down the hall of Wheat last week, I spied these acrostics created by Mrs. Ellis's classes. Love the integration of Read, Write, Think website and using technology. acrostics          acrostic 2

  • Welcome Back to School

Posted by Jane Flynn at 8/30/2012
Welcome Back to School. I see great things ahead for technology and education. Our students are 21st Century Learners. We will engage them with technology integration. One new poll maker I found today, Flisti. I am still testing it out. This is my first poll.

Could you use this in the classroom?
