Cleburne ISD will conduct Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten registration for the 2018-2019 school year Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall of the Cleburne Conference Center.
Effective with the new school year, Pre-Kindergarten will be offered on all CISD elementary campuses for students meeting the state’s program requirements.
“We are very excited to have full-day Pre-Kindergarten expand to all our campuses this year,” Assistant Superintendent Tammy Bright said. “We have seen the results a full-day program can have on early learners in the skills they have gain in knowledge and socialization. They are better prepared for kindergarten, which gives teachers an opportunity to take them farther in the academic skills and concepts introduced at that grade level.”
A new initiative for the CISD kindergarten program is two-way dual language being offered, in this first year of implementation, exclusively at Irving Elementary. The number of applications for the program led the District to conduct a lottery to determine participants in the the kindergarten and first grade sections available at the campus.
Pre-Kindergarten is open to children who will be age four on or before September 1 who meet any of the following eligibility guidelines: federal free/reduced price lunch program; unable to speak or comprehend English; currently or have been in foster care; homeless as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 1143a; have a parent who is an active duty member of the U.S. armed forces or whose parent was injured or killed while serving on active duty as a member of the U.S. armed forces.
Students who will be five on or before September 1 are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. Students who were enrolled in the CISD Pre-K program have already been registered for kindergarten.
Parents are asked to bring their student with them to registration. To complete the registration process parents should provide the original and one copy of the child’s birth certificate, child’s Social Security card, proof of residency such as a utility bill or rental agreement, and the child’s immunization record, which must be current. A driver’s license or other form of photo ID of the parent registering the child must also be presented.
Parents enrolling their child in Pre-Kindergarten should bring the required information listed above along with proof of income, consisting of two current check stubs for everyone employed/receiving income residing in the household.
