Our collaboration, cooperation, and partnerships with local and area law enforcement, first responders, and emergency management include their membership on the CISD Safety and Security Committee. This committee meets regularly with district and campus administrators to develop and review procedures and protocol relating to safety and security. This includes the District and Campus multi-hazard Emergency Operation Plans, centered on prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery while researching and discussing future safety and security initiatives. Recommendations from the Texas School Safety Center are also utilized in implementing best practices for campus safety.
Over a six-year period, CISD has dedicated more than $2.1 million to safety and security measures including:
* Access-controlled entrances and vestibules
* Alarm systems, including alerts when an access door is ajar
* Security fencing
* Public address/intercom upgrades at older campuses
* Classroom door locks and hardware
* New and upgraded video surveillance, including high definition cameras
The District conducts regular and ongoing staff training relating to safety and security. Behavioral Threat Assessment Teams are in place at all campuses.
